Ludwig LB553 Nut Box

Loading...

Good Morning.  Just purchased LB553 Bronze piccolo and there appear to be no springs in any of the nut boxes.  Were these drums originally fitted with springs ?  Serial number is 321 9315 and its date stamped 129 on the inside of the shell.  Look forward to any reply.  Regards  Paul

I have never seen a Ludwig piccolo snare with any springs, just a receiving nut.  I don't know about the earlier models but based on the nut box design, I doubt if they ever had springs.

Most modern nut boxes (lugs) don't have springs. They usually have a nylon insert that holds the swivel nut in place and also acts as a lug lock to prevent the tension rods from loosening.

I'm curious to see how the lack of springs affects your tuning experience good luck with it!
