Ludwig Kit Rare Color??

Loading...

In a previous post I had talked about a Ludwig drum set I aquired. During the conversation regarding my original question, the discussion of the wrap color came up. The kit is called a "Yellow Cortex", but in reality it is orangish in color.

I did som research and found that the color appears in the 1979 catalog here on line. Since there is no copy of the 1980 catalog I can't be sure if the color was available, but I do have a 1980 kit with the wrap on it. The next catlog available after that does not show the wrap, so it appears it was only offered in 1979 and 1980.

I had never seen this color kit before until I ran into this one. - Is it rare?

Can anyone tell me what value it may have if it is rare?

(tried to upload photo - failed. - I am logginf off and trying again)

Rare yes...but that does not always equate to valuable, as I am sure you know. It was rare because no one really liked those bright colors. Remember teh macho craze of the late 70s/early 80s? Same as with many other colors. And they are 6 ply shells to boot. This is not to say there is anything wrong with them, just not a highly sought after combination. Like butcher block, the rest of the cortex wraps will have some fans, and it made sense for touring drummers to buy cortex, but it is not the most visually appealing wrap available.

Have you tried re-sizing your pix?

OK. It worked that time.

So, here is a pic of the kit. What do you think this kit may be worth?
