Ludwig Keystone badge Chrome Timbales

Loading...

Hi folks!

Following my "absolutely random" drum instinct (that means every single piece of old/vintage drum are sexy for me), I bought these Ludwig Keystone badge Timbales.Excited

As seller announced, they belonged originally to a Carioca Set, a bizarre config. launched the later 60's.

I found them very attractive, especially because they have Keystone badges and the fact these look in nice condition and "pitting-free".

I paid $1,5 bill for both (13 & 14 x 6,5), inc. mount holder, I dunno if this is ok or not.

Doesn't look like an Enron investment anyway....

The point is I don't have the faintest idea what I'm going to do with these !! LOL

Although, I would like to hear some expert guys -as Cuquito Bowing- in order to enlighten me a little bit about some characteristics, and mainly, to indicate me what kind of heads, tuning type, it's recommended for these babies.

Thanks in advance !!!

You bought these from a friend of mine who is a forum member as well. He had a pair of copper ones that I went to get and someone beat me to them. The ones you got looked to be in better shape anyway. On the Black Panther kit that he mentioned, they were actually used as the "ride toms" from the factory. Very neat setup. I would try to find a stand for them and enjoy them. Nice grab!

Those timbales are very good when you have the correct skins on them. These timbales are from the 60's era when Ludwig made the mistake of changing rim on them and putting regular drum rims on the timbales. By putting the correct rims with heads you will get a great sound out of them. They seem to be in great condition for it's age. They are good to add to any kit if playing any Latin, Latin Jazz or for affects in rock or any music being played. With plastic heads they will ring quite a bit I recommend change heads Here you have a photo of the original aluminum rims and heads for that timbales. If you need them I have them brand new heads never used. The tuning of the timbales is very easy it just as tuning up tom toms on a drum kit. Also the price on that set was a good deal, one of the same sets is being sold on Ebay currently with it original rims for $580.00. Also here is a closeup photo of what they should look with the original heads mounted with the aluminum rim on them as they came new back in early 58-59 before Ludwig changed rims.

Very cool drums. Also know the seller, and he is as honest as the day is long. Here is a photo of my '69 in Black Panther.

I restored a 1966 set of these a couple years ago, but never thought about the pre-66 aluminum rims you mention and picture (great image, by the way), Cuco. Are these available anywhere? I'd be looking for those heads as well, but both not for a little while (sending my daughter to college in the fall - tight!). Thanks for the info again, as always.

NO Poregon these are very hard to come about, I got these brand new thinking some day I would get a set of Ludwig and transport them back in time. These type of rims were made from 1958-1950 then they started making regular drum rims. Ending these type of rims.

Hi folks! The point is I don't have the faintest idea what I'm going to do with these !! LOL

You could follow Hal Blaine's example. A lot of the tom sounds on records he played on were actually timbales. That sound led him to the "Monster" set of single headed toms which then led to the concert tom craze of the 70's.
