I recently picked up a 1965 Jazz Festival (in Champagne Sparkle) and when I changed the heads, I quickly realized that the tension rods are not correct. In fact, there were 4 different sizes on my drum. Weird.
So which is size is correct? Not the 2" Supraphonic rods? I'd like to pick up a matching set, just not sure which to buy.

Every second hand drum I have bought, even some in excellent condition, has had two or more different length tension rods. I don't know why they seem to get mixed up...but they do. Anyway, the experts here may give you more info., but I believe that 1 3/4" rods will work. Since you say it's a 1965 I assume it's a 5" shell. Just so there is a quarter inch or more of threads in the swivel nut.
it is a real mystery why tension rods would get mixed up.
interestingly, most of what was being used in the jazzfest were longer than the 2" supraphonic rods.
i wonder if this is one of those ludwig factory quirks.
