Ludwig drums,What are these and are they collectible Last viewed: 1 minute ago

They are all 3 ply shells. I would remove all the lugs and remove all the old wrap. if the old wrap looks intact you should be able to remove the old glue. There is a product called Xylene that will remove old adhesive and not hurt the wrap. Xylene is a extremly flamable solvent with almost toxic fumes. It works wondefully, but use outside or in a well ventilated area. You can get it at Lowes or Home depot. Restoring the original wrap is definatly the best thing you could possably do. Weather you want to keep these drums or sell them. the original wrapped drums are worth far more than anything else you could do to these. What are the diameters of these drums? looks like 22" bass drums and 16" floor toms and 13" tom

Well I know the black is a re wrap. The wood looks like a stain color or is that walnut wood.So do you think I should restore the 3 matching ones as a three piece. Or is the other 2 with clear a better route and use the 13" tom with the off with them.I am wondering if I can still save the original gold sparkle wrap on the three. Is there something that would take the adhesive glue off without hurting the original wrap.

What do I do about the port holes and the badges that are missing. Is there a company that makes replicas of them.

What about the tom holder on top of the bass drum can i use a none Ludwig part and not hurt the value of the drums.

What year is the white inside drums you think?

The bass drum hoops, do you paint them with a sprayer or can you use a can of paint.

the port holes are "Vent holes" there are reproduction badges and grommets available on ebay, as well as factory badges for the yr your shells are. . you can find the tom holder bracket on here or ebay. They quit painting the interiors white in the early 60's and went to clear maple interiors. If you can restore the original wrap and get the correct tom holder and correct badges the kit will be worth more. There are guys on here that know a lot more than me about these drums than i do.

Well took all the old black wrap off. The orig wrap is in really good shape on all 3 pieces. Are they supposed to be glossy. Where the lugs go i see some shiny spots.

Do the wraps have a clear coat on top from the factory?

For the glue to stick, someone has knocked the shine down on the org wrap I bet.

Can you clear coat a wrap?

I will post pics in a while.

Factory wrap has a clear coat or clear plastic coat i guess. I had a floortom that had been spray painted black. I stripped all the paint off of it and there was a nice white marine pearl under it, unfortunatly it wasnt very shiney. I took it to drummer friend that is a painter at a very reputable body shop. He polished it with 3m plastic headlight polish and it came out shinier than a new lil red wagon.

You can try anything you want but I'll bet you nothing works as good as Xylene. NOTHING! Goof off might work good on left over adhesive from removing a lable, but not on this.

Plus 1 on the Xylene.... works great !!!

Use it like my buddy Poppy taught me.... soak a rag, lay it on the shell for awhile to let it work in a bit.

Then rub that old adhesive off.

OK Thanks

Then I need to figure out how to get it nice and glossy and bring that sparkle out again.

I suggest keeping the champagne sparkle drums with the original wrap on them. Then use the other drums for parts.

Take all the lugs and parts off all drums, and clean up the champagne sparkle wrap as well as you can. Then re-apply the parts, put new heads on them and you're good to go.

Either use the set as a proper acoustic studio set or re-sell them, and sell the other clear-interior shells and any extra parts. Leave the search for replacement badges and grommets up to the new owner, you'll just be spending money after money and won't recoup it when you re-sell them, and the drums sound the same.

DO NOT REMOVE THE ORIGINAL WRAP!!!!
