Ludwig Downbeat v Club date? Last viewed: 10 seconds ago

Can someone clarify the differences between these two models from Ludwig. Are they in fact the same shell and bearing edge with only difference in hardware. Is there a profound difference in sound, or are they really the same thing? Is the passion for them really only because of the single lug looks?

Thanks all.

You're exactly right. A vintage 20/12/14 downbeat kit and a 20/12/14 clubdate kit used the same shells/bearing edges, just different hardware. The sound much alike to me.

I would imagine you couldn't tell the difference in sound.

I think I like the more bow ties.

i set up my clubdates obp at a concert venue the other day, unreal the projection, i also had a silver down beat a while ago and the down beat did seem to have a bit more timbre which again not so discernible but having both id say the down beat is a bit more refined. gary

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Gary just curious. Did both sets have the same heads top and bottom?

Cheers
