The magnet test doesn't work for Supra's. The other alternative to brass is aluminum. See? As far as dating, if it has a red felt ball bat muffler it's a later one. Round knob would be earlier.

Small round knob. Plan to remove all lugs for proper detailing and maybe try the scrape test.

From DaddyNowhere

There - snare just passed the magnet test, (not attracted)...

Magnet test won't work. Magnet won't stick to brass or aluminum. Weigh it, if it's around 9 pounds, it's brass. Or use the afore mentioned method, and check the inner edge of a lug hole.

Supraphonics will always pass the test since both brass and aluminum are non magnetic. You can use a magnet to determine if you have COS or COB rims.If you find a supra thats magnetic its either a phony or if its real, one of the rarest drums on the planet.

That drum is from 1969....LARGE round knowb muffler and P-83 throwoff. I have one just like it. Wonderful drum -rare Supra in that they were only like that for just a little over one year. Doesn't really make them any more valuable, though

I'm looking as closely as I can at the Supra photo and I don't see any serial number on that badge. I also think I might see crimped snare beds. Or am I just seeing some damage in the first photo of the P-83?

Is it possible that it is an older shell with pre serial badge on which was assembled in 1969 with 1969 parts? I'm out of my depth here.

No serial#, (otherwise I'd have referenced it). Yes, crimped snare beds...
