Ludwig Clear vistalite with supersensitive snare Last viewed: 43 minutes ago

Hello....fairly new lurker....First time poster!

I have a question about a snare drum that I have just picked up. It was found in the 4th grade band room of the school I work at. I spotted it during a staff meeting and quickly asked about it. The band teacher told me it was some plastic piece of junk, and that I could bring it home for the summer and try and fix it if I wanted. I tried to explain to her what I thought she had. She did not seem interested since there was no snares attached. I took it home and bought a new snare for it....I don't think it has been used that much.

Looks to be a mid 70's model. Not sure how often the supersensitive snares were used on vistalites. I did see another picture on this site....but are they rare?

My question is....what would be a fair price to offer her?

Thanks for being here!! This forum is fantastic, and I have already learned so much!!!

A 1970''s Ludwig S.S. snare clear vista shell is a rare drum.A fair price to offer would be 250.00+.You could re-sell the drum for 400.00+..Yes these are rare snares most of them crack at on the strainer on the shell...Mikey

Thanks for the input....Stashing cash. My plan is to buy the band teacher 3 or 4 student model snares in exchange for the ludwig! It sounds so sweet!!

Let us know how it turns out. That's definitely a rare bird... I had no idea they even existed as a supersensitive. Great score!

I won an Ebay auction yesterday for a 5x14 S.S. Blue Vista snare yesterday... I was gone all day, so I had to put in my bid before I left and hope for the best. I was astounded when I got home and was the winner at small $182.50.

Guy selling it said there were 57 watchers, he was surprised too that it did not go for more. It is for my birthday and will provide a matching backup to my regular blue snare on Pro Beat kit.

I just had to tell someone who could appreciate this properly! :)

SpikeyT...congratulations on your purchase...I'd say that's an excellent buy! I was one of those "watchers" and almost pulled the trigger. I'm watching for a blue Vistalite snare to add to my collection. I thought that a S.S. Vistalite was probably somewhat rare. In the end I decided I just didn't want to mess with the S.S. mechanism. Anyway, well done.
