Ludwig Clear Vistalite 70s B/O badge Big Beat: What's It Worth? Last viewed: 15 minutes ago

Hi folks,

I've got a quick couple of questions for y'all today. Firstly, to set the scene, I'm from the vintage drum deprived and chronically overpriced land down under. I've come across what appears to be a very nice clear vistalite kit in the big beat (22x14, 12x8, 13x9, 16x16) configuration with matching 14x5 clear snare. It's located interstate, roughly 800km (500 miles) away, so I cant just pop up and take a look, but he's got some pretty good photos and it looks in decent shape. No cracks, spider-webbing or other acrylic related nastiness. I can't see any noticeable scratches and the chrome looks pretty sharp. Little bit of pitting here and there but nothing major by the looks of it. New heads on everything except the 12" too.

What is a fair price for these? How much does the matching snare add to the value of the kit as a whole? Any acrylic or vintage Ludwig specific questions I should ask?

Cheers,

Cam

gooday cam, i am by no means an expert on vistas but i have seen these go for between $1000.00 to $1500.00 in my area depending on condition and color. the clears are the most common and the amber and greens are the most rare and desirable. hope this helps.

Thanks, Jamie.

To be honest clear is the colour I prefer which is good for me I guess. The guy is asking $1700; that's the fives drums (12, 13, 16, 22 and 14x5) with no hardware except for the dual tom mount. It's got new CS black dots over clear ambs on the toms and kick plus coated amb/amb snare side so there's no need to spend extra coin reheading because he's just replaced top and bottom of everything (except that 12" as I mentioned in the first post).

To try and give an idea of how much more everything costs here, if I search 'sold listings' for Supraphonic snare on ebay the trashed/heavily pitted ones go for around $300 ($282) and really nice ones ballpark of $500 ($470USD) and COB 14x6.5"ers in good nick seem to coming in around $600 ($564USD).

I did see the linked youtube video of Lucius Borich playing it. I loved those Just Visiting EPs they did back in the early 2000s.

My biggest issue is getting them to Melbourne from Sydney; he said he's not keen to ship them if it involves packing them down into a couple of boxes. I don't think I'm quite up for the 1,700km round trip to pick them up over a weekend needless to say.
