Greetings,
I have been rehearsing with a new band, and the bandleader has a kit avilable for drummers to use at his house. It's a Blue/Olive Badge Ludwig Blue Sparkle. 8" x 12", 9" x 13", 16" x 16" and 14" x 22" 10 lug bass drum. The snare is a 5.5" x 14" Chrome Super Sensitive. The drums are in very good condition, and all the drums have (possibly) the original heads, which are clear silver dot heads on the toms and bass, and the snare has a Ludwig Smooth White Weathermaster (70's Ludwig Logo with the L and G connected) with the Logo/Writing in Gold. Tom holder is the diamond shape bracket on the bass drum with a single 1" downtube and the gear-style individual 3/8" L- arms.
The drums sound very good, but two of the toms are an anomaly that I wanted to share (Sorry, no photos). The 12" and the bass drum have clear interiors (which to me is normal for that era/type of drum), whereas the 13" and the floor tom have gray Granitone interiors. All the drums have the classic lugs with the round tone control knobs and Blue Olive badges. It appears to be in a factory configuration, because the tone control knobs are facing the drummer with the badges facing the audience.
I know Ludwig had many anomalies and I also know that the gray granitone was first used (and maybe only used?) in the "Standard" series. I also know that the Standard series were the same shells as the normal "Classic" series, just with Granitone and cheaper lugs/brackets.
Anyway, has anyone seen a "classic" Ludwig Blue/Olive badge shell with Classic Lugs with Granitone interiors before? I'll check the Serial numbers next time I am there, but it looked it was a kit that was "born together", but I'll double check.
Just curious to see if anyone else had ever seen any.
Thanks,
V
