I recently picked up a 1965 Ludwig Downbeat kit. The 12" rack tom has a serial number of 122567 and a date stamp of April 5, 1965. The 14" floor tom has a serial number of 121420 and date stamp of March 27, 1965 while the 20" bass drum has a serial number of 127175. I can't seem to find a date stamp on that one.
My questions concern the brackets mounted on the three drums. The rack tom's got a Ludwig P-1672. The brackets for the floor tom legs are also P-1672s. For some reason the brackets for the bass drum spurs are a P-1672 and a P-1216D. The bracket for the cymbal L-arm on the bass drum shell is missing so I'll have to pick one up.
From what I've read in Rob Cook's publication, "The Ludwig Book" (see pics), a kit from 1965 should have either P-1216A or P-1216D brackets. Am I correct? If so, I'm wondering what the P-1672s are doing on this particular kit. Since I've also got to pick up a bracket for the cymbal L-arm on the bass drum I want to make sure that I purchase the "period correct" one. If any of you Ludwig gurus out there could be kind enough to supply me with some "words of wisdom" I'd greatly appreciate it.
THANKS in advance for your time and your help!
