I just came back from picking up a complete 60's tigers eye orange Bollero kit w/ rerings. It came with flat stands, including a lokfast base, original bass drum cymbal mount, all tone controls, rims, badges, and a bunch of old heads including 2 NOS weathermasters and a NOS Slingerand dot head. With this kit is a WFL snare that has been painted to match the tigers eye finish. It looks to be blue/gold duco. I rotated the badge a bit and it's gold underneat and there are sigs of blue showing through elsewhere. It has some serious ply problem around were the strainer would have been and is bubbling inwards a bit. A will take a better shot later after I eat, but was wondering if this drum is salvagable. The hardware is nickel and the original tone control is there, but missing strainer, butt-end and bottom rim. There is also the bottom of a vintage Ludwig throne.

Well here's the Bollero all back together after a 24 hour sprint! I'm very happy with how she sounds! The snare is (expletive) amazing, which I didn't really expect. I put NOS Ludwig heads on it that I got in the deal. The batter head is a Weathermaster CT batter db 750 medium coated. It's now my new favourite snare head!!
As for the WFL snare (in first pics)...well I'm not really sure what to do with it...

That's a classic pic Wayne! Brylcreemed hair & all! This kit is way above my expectations. Those big chunky re-rings and the thinner shells make for a sound i much prefer to the later straight shelled MIJs. Probably conserved their shape and bearing edges to a degree as well. The snare sounds great! There are already a few people lined up here, so i'm going to enjoy her while i can and move on to a new project. I don't really feel confident restoring the Wfl, so i think i'll pass her on to someone with real skills or at least someone who needs nickel bowties, t-rods and a top rim. I'm going to make a set of flat stands from some of the stuff from this kit and from my own pile of junk and hopefully come up with something usable on small gigs.

No doubt you`ve got people lined up on that mij set but as you say... time to move on to the next project, but enjoy her before she goes.Just thought it was neat to see Bollero drums again and brought back some nostalgic memories.
PS.-never used Briylcreem but can see where you`d think that from the hair doo, lol.
