Ludwig blue olive black oyster

Loading...

Hi, first of all, sorry for my bad english, i'm a french canadian from Rimouski.

I'm enjoying this website alot!

Some one just gave me an old kit, kick and floor are ludwig from the 70's and tom is, probably, home made.

My question is about the ludwig.

The drums had the blue olive badge, the sharp corners, with the serial number 887131 (kick) and 887752 (floor)

But as i saw, there are 2 differents sharp corners. The 1969 with the serial number on the badge, and 71, with not serial numbers. But mines had the sharp corners, and the serial number.

Do you have an idea?

I'm new in vintage drumset!

I'll put a photo from my kick drum

Thank you!

Welcome, most likely early 70's 3 ply great sound gary

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Salut Hemilzdrum, et Bienvenue au forum !! I"m from Montreal myself ! Always great to see a fellow Quebecer on this forum..

I don't know if you or anyone else noticed, but those lugs don't look like your typical Ludwig classic lugs..They look like they were replaced at some point with some MIJ (Made in Japan) lugs.. Some better pics would help determine if that is the case..

By the way, your English is fine ;)

Cheers,

Rob

Early 70's shell, very cool (to me at least) wrap!

Definitely those are Non-Ludwig replacement lugs.

All Ludwig high end drums from that time only had classic lugs, however, another less expensive kit that was still considered a pro kit,a was the late 60's to early 70's Standard Series kits, which had a different lug..

This was only because Ludwig had to compete with the cheaper MIJ import kits that were selling like crazy.. The Standards were made with the same 3 ply Super Classic drum shells, only with lighter hardware.. Yours is not the Standard series, as Ludwig never had that finish in that series.. Most of the finishes on the "Standards" were different colored "Strata" finishes, which kind of look like your black oyster finish, but was also known as the "Bowling Ball Black Oyster" finish.. I had a 1976 kit in the same finish as yours , which i sold like an idiot many years ago.. The lugs currently installed on your drum is 100% cheap "made in Japan" lugs.. Weird that someone would do that. You can easily order correct Classic Lugs direct from Ludwig.. There is also Dave's Drum Shop in Ottawa that sells them . That's where i bought my missing lugs for my custom wrap vintage Ludwig kit.. Dave is a nice guy and very professional. Simply email him directly on the web site and he will get back to you the next day !

cheers,

Rob

I believe the Club Date and Jazzett were the only one`s to have the rail console centered on the BD. It was close to the batter head. The placement of the badge seems strange.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
