Hi all, I'm new here. Looking for some advice..

I picked up my 6.5" Black Beauty in 1996. I've never been able to get to the bottom of what year it was made in. It's got a 70s badge (with pointy corners), Serial No:2221283.

All info online seems to stop at around 1979. I think the drum may be circa 1980 (?) but I'm unsure as I thought Ludwig had changed the corners of the badge to be more round by that point.

All help appreciated! :)

My guess is that your drum is late 70s to early 80s. Richard Gier's book, "Serial Number Based Dating Guides for Vintage Ludwig Drums", can help you estimate the drum's year of manufacture. Serial numbers can only be used to estimate the date without a date stamp on the inside of the shell.

I just looked at a photo of a rounded badge with a lower serial number than yours. Killer drum though, congrats.

I picked up my BB in May of 1981, rounded corner B/O badges, badge number 2200370.

Thanks both.

Strange that my snare has a higher serial number but the sharp corner B/O badge. Hmm.
