Lately I've been hearing a lot about the Ludwig Black Beauty and how great it sounds and being a Slingy guy was wondering how it would match up with my 1972 14"x6.5" Krupa Sound King. A friend brought over his new BB, same dimension, and we A/B them. I've got to say that I thought the BB had great presence, nice stick articulation but to my ears it lacked mid to low tone depth. Plus, it didn't have a tone control which I like as it gives me more sonic flexibility. Any opinions out there on this subject?

I've never played a BB but my 14"x6.5" COB Slingy has always been my favorite snare. I preferred it to the 14"x5" Noble & Cooley I used to have which is saying a lot! The perfect combination of fatness and articulation.
