Recently purchased a very nice condition Pioneer snare drum and it arrived today, packed in the original Ludwig suitcase box. Everything is original, including the heads and snare wires. Pretty much no pitting of the lugs and the tension rods and washers show no rust at all! I've already disassembled the drum for detailing, which should look great when complete.
My question concerns the shell depth. All information I can find show the depth as 5", but I know depths have been known to vary, just as in the Jazz Festival. Pictures of the drum on eBay suggested it was 5.5" in depth. Once the heads were removed, I was able to confirm that the depth is a bit over 5.5", except at the snare beds, which are right at 5.5".
The resocoated interior is stamped Sept 16, 1966 (50 years old this September!) How common is it to find a 5.5" depth Pioneer snare drum?
