Ludwig 60s downbeat black oyster pearl

Loading...

New to the forum as of today, so hello everyone!

Question: I just acquired a 60s downbeat Ludwig kit. The snare is a jazz fest. They date mostly to 1965. The bearing edges were cleaned up at some point and they were rewrapped in the black oyster pearl finish. They are very clean and look and sound great. I know the rewrap and such devalue them quite a bit, but I'm curious what I could expect to sell them for? If I have to keep them I'm cool with that because they sound amazing. May be the best kick drum I've heard in years!

Thanks!

Btw, can't figure out how to resize the pics on my phone so pics will have to wait

Welcome to the forum! And, congrats on your find!

Rewraps' values always stir up good debate! I "rescued" some shells from a warehouse in Tulsa, OK a couple of years back, and rewrapped a set of 60s Ludwig shells in BOP. I got $1099 plus shipping (eBay sale) for just the three drums. Info on that kit is here:

With the Jazzfest, and assuming you have hardware, I would think yours should be worth more than that. But who really knows with this shaky economy??

Hope this helps a little,

Bill

Thanks for the info! That kit is a beauty btw. I have posted it for sale on the austin Craigslist here if anyone is curious of pics for now: http://austin.craigslist.org/msg/4142964867.html

I wonder if I'm asking too much... Hmm...

Rewrapped orphans with bearing edge work...

Thoughts?

Too much in my opinion, but am sure someone will disagree.

with mods and rewrap youd be hard press to get anything pass 850 on a good day not saying some dont care as wood is great but for the purist we at least most here will pass

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Maybe I'll just keep them then. I want an all original downbeat 60s kit, but I'm certainly no purist and these drums sound great; so I guess keeping them isn't a bad option for me.
