Could be citrus, under the black.

Whenever I see a Black Panther wrap now, I think about the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" because there could be a "golden ticket" hidden under the BP wrap. Then again....maybe not!

Most likely not. Why destroy one rare finish to find out if there is an even more rare (and ugly) finish underneath? Lame

Honestly, I had never seen this finsih before. Do they have wrapped finishes underneath? Is that true?

Yes, it really happened, the citrus mod wasn't a good seller back in the day, so ludwig took the remaining stock and simply wrapped over the original citrus mod with black panther, now the black panther isn't all that desirable except to some,,and citrus mod is desirable to many as it's been reintroduced. go figure. here is a pic of the one in our gallery. http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=27309 this is the finish that Mitch Mitchell was using at woodstock

Does anyone have a better pic of the Black Panther. It looks in the tom pics to be a sort of textured fake leather thing. I have a buddy who gave me the Slingys that is an upholsterer. He could probably get vinyl that looks just like that stuff if someone wanted it.

I tried to buy the Slingys but he insisted that I take no money. Now I can't find anything that is either the same color or reasonable in price. Capri Pearl is cool but not worth 2 grand to me for a 4 piece kit.
