Looking for some real WFL snare wires... Last viewed: 7 hours ago

I have a '50s WFL Jazz Festival snare that I just can't seem to get to sound very 'snarey' if that makes any sense. It just either sounds

super tight and deader the tighter I make the snare but can't get that

inbetween wet snare sound. Tried installing a new Diplomat snare side, adjusting the throw, checked the bearing edges and they don't look

super rounded or anything. So I'm thinking it might be the after market Puresound wires that came with the snare? Do I need to really find more or less period correct wires or??

Revival in town here had a similar kit and snare, borrowed a picture of a period correct snare wire for the throw I need and attached it.

Thanks in advance for reading my Friday rant :)

I don't like Diplomat snare side heads, I like ambassador snare side heads, use them on all my wfl's I don't like the original snare wires they are all dead sounding to me. the puresounds are to my liking. tune the bottom head tighter than the top head. on my tension watch I tune the bottom head up tp 78 to 80 and the top head to 75. just experiment with the tuning.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Tried all of that, always play with snare side tighter than the batter side :)

Diplomats would offer less deadoning, more resonance, I play almost all Diplomats as a result. Everything very open.

Responding via my phone, so sounds short, but thanks for your reply sir, always enjoy reading whar you have to say! :)
