Some time ago I paid what I considered a very "reasonable price" for a vintage (late 50s/early 60s) Rogers Holiday rack tom (9x13) and floor tom (16x16) in their original WMP wraps.
The drums have the Bread & Butter Lugs mounted on them, with no cracks whatsoever, which I understand is quite rare. The floor tom's also got some additional "Knobby Mounts" installed.
When I purchased the toms, my intent was to someday find a matching Rogers WMP bass drum to complete the kit, since I've already got a Rogers Dyna-Sonic Snare Drum.
I've now got an opportunity to purchase a Rogers WMP bass drum shell for $100.00. The shell's drilled for the B&B lugs, two swiv-o-matic mounts, and two swiv-o-matic spur mounts. However, in order to "complete" the drum, I'd still need to locate and purchase find the following:
* All the B&B lugs;
* All t-rods, claws, and washers;
*.One set of wooden hoops & one set of heads;
* Two sets of swiv-o-matic mounts for a cymbal & rack tom;
* One set of swiv-o-matic spur mounts w/spurs; and
* A Rogers Script badge.
I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth buying the shell, since some of the items that I'll need to get to complete the drum will not only prove to be quite challenging to find, but significantly expensive as well.
Would it be wiser and less expensive to wait until an actual Rogers WMP bass drum (in lieu of bass drum"shell") becomes available down the road?
The other issue, of course, is whether the WMP finish on the bass drum shell that I'm considering would actually match that of the wrap currently on my rack tom and floor tom.
What do the experts out there think?
Drop me a line if you've got any suggestions.
