Looks like an Artist model, could be a solid shell depending on when it was made. The hoops are wrong which kinda makes me wonder what else has been altered. Do you have anymore pics or the serial number?

My gut tells me that is not a Slingerland snare. Just some shell with Slingy hardware. Plus the rims are wrong

Might be a "Music Yo" slingy (gibson as jonni says) but the hoops are definitely wrong. Those snares were like $150 new but they still had sticksavers and they still sound pretty great for that kind of money new.

You may very well be right, it looks a lot like the finish I've seen on a few Studio King sets but they had the Nashville Cloud Badge. The other thing that looked odd was the presence of 2 vent holes, not sure if that was the norm for an Artist model, because I don't have one from this time period. I do know for sure that someone has robbed the hoops or it could be as Musicaldeath said...just a recreation of an Artist model. I recently acquired a 15x6 Maple Keller shell (12 ply shell with 12 ply re-rings) that I'm going to build a Slingy tribute with a bunch of spare parts that have accumulate over the years. It could very well be the same circumstances behind this drum.

Just got more info on this snare, it IS a Sling Clone, was custom built by a drum maker with Sling parts, maple shell, sling throw off, hardware, although it may not be correct, its looks killer and sounds fantastic, the price is right, I may pick it up and use at some of my gigs. Thanks for all the feedback!!!

HA gut was right! It looks like a nice snare, just get yourself some sticksavers to complete the look even more

GOOD CALL! The drum looked suspect, but there was enough Slingy DNA on it to make it a tuff call, but you nailed it! Wondering if this might be a Mojo build, he's been doing a lot of Slingy inspired stuff lately, but he would have had the good taste to use Stick Savers. If you're getting her for a good price & sounds as good as she looks, I'm jealous! LOL!

I'm going to try my first Sparkle Lacquer finish on the 15x6 & even though it's a 15" shell, I'm still going to make her an 8 lug. Really want this lil' sweetie to open up...looking for that fat, big band sound from the 40's. I've got a set of NOB Beaver Tail Cigar lugs & a 3 point strainer & butt from a parts shell I bought & just got a set of NOB hoops off the Bay. Gonna have some fun with this one!...it's for me and I love me some Slingy's!
