Let's liven things up a bit Last viewed: 9 hours ago

OK all. I am open to all music. As long as it set's me off I'll dig music from any era, any format, Drummer, no Drummer, Electro Drums, literally any of it. I LOVE MUSIC written, designed, recorded and performed by any Human being from planet earth from any time or place. Genre's are for lazy hacks or the Itunes database. I love music so long as it sends me somewhere sometime if and when the mood takes me. That can change with age, and who you have in the room with you at the time. Also the art of "selling" music to each other depending on drink, drugs, time of the morning, quality of the sound system and ultimately the volume and if it's your Boss loving Bruce, or Paul f-ing Mcartney. I have definitely come away from nights out with new tunes in my head.

Anyway I wouldn't listen to this Snarky Puppy day to day(actually I think this is a awful name for the band)buy a T-shirt and chase them around the country to see all their shows, but this tune and this Vid is Killing! Jonnyringo, these guy's are totally having it!! Man if you can't see that then that is a great shame. If any of them look like they are playing without passion, it's probably because they're too busy counting!! lol

Lift music you say, thats going to be one hell of a lift. The day I take my last and find myself in the heavenly lift to the gates and this track is playing I will be smiling ear to ear(although I would regret not taking the stairway to..........

Wow, that 's a mouthfull! I happen to like all kinds of music myself, but that doesn't mean I like every piece of music ever written. I suppose if I saw these guys live in a small venue, I 'd get into it more. I wouldn 't listen to this in my car or at home on tv. I 'm more of a melody guy.

The drum in the F.T. position IS a snare-very loose. I was totally into Don Ellis when I was in H.S., and enjoy odd signatures when it works, not just to be an odd signature. This one works-

You can thank Dave Brubeck for turning odd time signatures into a gimmick! The guy -went out of his way- to write in odd time signatures. The flood of, not as talented composers, (copycats) that followed is what spoiled it. Take Five was innovative but it sparked an unnecessary flood of music which used odd time signatures for its own sake. Nothing artistic or innovative about being number two, or forty-seven relying on a gimmick just to capitalize on something popular.

For sure, but also how about Leonard Bernstein with west Side story? Not a gimmick but total genius with flow despite the insane time sigs.

Yep! Him too! Bernstein and Brubeck, both from the same musical era too! Must have been something the water at the time.

lj - Man, I am so impressed with this guy! Chops is one thing, 'feel' is another. Guys like Weckl have the chops, but they don't have, (as, Bruce Lee would say,) any emotional content. This kid is chops out the wazoo with tons of feel and groove. I'm going to check out some more of his videos. I plan to steal licks from him wholesale! Amazing répertoir/library of killer licks.

Watch for him in the future! Monster talent that kid.

They showed his footwork in the video! He's using a heel/toe technique. You have to start with the beater against the head, (heel up,) then go down on the heel - and then toe and it spits out a fast double on the bass drum. He follows it up with an explosive splash. Amazing stuff. Like I said, I'm going to rob him blind! Excellent drummer.
