Leedy Marching Drums Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hello... obviously, I'm new here...

Last year, I was able to save two Leedy Marching drums (15 x 12 snare & 18 x 12 Tenor drum) from a dumpster. They were in BAD shape, but I thought it might be worth seeing what I could do with 'em. I stripped off 3-4 layers of paint to find an American Legion decal over white. The drums are numbered with a stencil on the inside with "A.L." hand written in red grease pencil. I took them all the way down to bare wood and polished up the chrome bits. After two coats of oil, I think they turned-out fairly well.

That said, I'm having trouble narrowing down a year(s) of manufacture. Please let me know what you think. Click on the thumbnails to see larger pics.

Thanks!

If I was to venture a guess, I'd say early 30's.

What numbers are stenciled on the inside??

That would most likely tell you the year and month of manufacture...first two numbers being the year.

They both have 364 stenciled on them. The snare has what looks like a backward "9" above the 364. The tenor has a "2" above the 364. If you say these are the date codes, then these two drums have been together since April of 1936... 74 years!

Thank you for the info... any idea what these might be worth?

Here's a link to all the pics I have (over 50):
