Latest completed project- Ludwig Orphans

I mentioned recently that I was working on completing some long overdue projects. Finished this one up today and took a few pics. These are 20/12/14 Galaxy Clubdates with a matching Pioneer and a newer Galaxy canister throne. These are all orphans and started with the purchase of one lone drum. A couple of years ago, I spotted a Clubdate 12" tom on Ebay. It was in a green sparkle wrap but I could see the Galaxy wrap around the badge. Getting that adhesive mess off of the drum was a chore. It cleaned up pretty nice. Then a year or so later, a 14x14 Galaxy floor tom showed up on Ebay. It had some fade going, real dirty, missing some parts and an added mount above a leg mount. I missed the buy it now and the drum sold. Reappeared on Ebay again and I snatched it up. Already had two Galaxy Pioneer snares and had bought the Galaxy canister throne new before Ludwig stopped making them. So here I was with a complete kit if I could only find a bass drum. Earlier this year, a good friend found the bass drum and got it for me. It was incomplete with nickel hardware and had been tucked away for some time. So once again, I had to go on the hunt for chrome Clubdate bass drum parts including the neat dual disappearing spurs. These parts came slowly!! This same friend found me the original front bass head and it arrived today. Actually came from the same place where the bass drum was originally. So, it has original heads, reso and batter with an added felt strip. The bass drum had one hoop with it's original inlay. Amazingly, I was able to find another hoop with matching inlay at about the same time. Guess it was meant to be.

Bass drum is a January '64 issue with 5606 serial number. The ride tom is 154520 making it a '65. Floor tom is serial number 112371 with a March 16 '65 date stamp. Pioneer is serial number 31264 and is a '64. Been playing this kit for a few months and really enjoying it. Many thanks to my good friend Nevin for the help with the bass drum shell and head.

Here are some before pics of the loners and the finished product. Hope you enjoy them.

Thanks guys. Years ago, there was a thread that asked what your ultimate set would be if you could choose any. I chose a Galaxy Clubdate kit. I later put together a 22/13 Galaxy Combo kit with added 12x15 floor. But it's taken a long time to get these sizes. They sound really nice too.

Thanks Mitch. There were just the empty holes when I got the drum. I decided to use the mount since the drum was already drilled for it. Good spot for a small splash/crash or a cowbell.
