Late 70's Yellow Orange Ludwig's Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hey guys. I'm looking to pick up this late 70's kit in yellow orange wrap. Sizes are 14, 18, 22. I've heard that this is a rarer wrap. Is this the case? I'll post pics when I get out to see them.

I wish it were citrus mod. Sounds like it's just a plain solid colored wrap. I'm not sure what Ludwig called that color. It's not yellow and not orange - somehwere in between.

Sounds like you are describing a finish called Gold Silk.

Does it have Mach lugs? The silk finishes were popular on the Mach kits.

Okay, so here's a pic. The 14" tom has small classic lugs and the 18" has large classic lugs, as does the bass drum (of course). The color doesn't come out quite right in the picture, but that's the best I could get with my phone's camera. The shells are 6 ply by the way. I've never seen this color or lug configuration. Any ideas?

I recall Yellow Cortex and Gold Silk. I don't know of another wrap that would fit the Plain Orange wrap you have described and illustrated.

I am almost positive that is Gold Silk.

I had a 24/13/16/18 6ply kit in Silver Silk at one time. The Silk wraps Ludwig used had a unique, subtle shimmer to them.

One thing, though - the Ludwig silk wraps are fragile. They scratch very easily, much like a satin wrap. Also, the wrap is kind of thin, and on some kits, stains from the adhesive Ludwig used would start to show up on the wrap after some time.

Despite that, the silks were all pretty cool, and if I ever found a kit in good condition, I'd buy it.
