Late 60's Supra Question.

Loading...

I have (I believe) 67 or later supra that I picked up a while ago with a kit. It has a few scratches on it and it looks like a gold color underneath. I grabbed a magnet and it would not stick to the shell but it would stick to the rims. There is a serial number on the keystone badge but I can't recall what it is. I could post pics later.

Any idea if this is brass possibly?

Thanks

Curtis

almost no chance that its gonna be brass from that time period, Curtis. magnet doesn't stick to brass, but it also doesn't stick to the ludalloy models(aluminum mostly). the hoops in that period are usually steel, which is why they are magnetic. the gold color you are seeing underneath is the plating before the nickel underneath the chrome. it may be copper, not sure on that part.

He's seeing the first plating step which is copper. Then they use nickel and finally chrome. I'm not surprised he can see the copper, Ludalloy just won't take plating very well at all. Look at all the flaking and pimple cases floating around.

Too many great drums to list here!
