L-rod Cymbal Mounting - is it safe? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Any issues with using the L-shaped cymbal arm mounted on the bass drum for older Ludwig kits? I'm worried about the weight and the ware on the shell. I use a 22" Light Ride, which isn't too heavy (obviously), but I'd hate to ruin my bass drum because I find the stand to look way cooler than a boom stand.

Thanks!

Hey JD...

I have 2 of these on my rogers kit...

One mount to the right for a ride..(I use a 20" thin & a 24")..••

Sometimes I put a cym stacker/tilter on top.of this and mount my 16" crash..

(like a pyamid).

Also the other L arm mount is underneath my racked tom...(12" splash)..

My bassdrum is a 20"...5 ply maple...! What yr/ply? Are the ludwig's...

My ride mount is a rogers mount...The 2nd mount is a early 70's Ludwig..

Both are good, however the rogers is better for heavier cyms..!

you should be ok..if u keep yr ride cym level ...it shouldn't sway outwards..

Best of luck...

The smaller the ride ...the closer to the Top part of the bass drum, you can place the cym mount...the trick is keeping it as straight as possible...

I had this on a old 60s *** kit (22"kick 3 ply)...the L mount was located at the 2 oclock position...and I was playing a 22" ride & the arm would sway outwards, due to the weight..

Now I know the *** kit isnt a luddy ....but just my experience...
