Kick drum heads

Loading...

It has always struck me as just wrong that the tom mounts, lugs, and whatever else is on there, is shined up to max brilliance, then the ring that holds the head on is there for the world to see in all if it's dull, ugly glory! Has anyone ever thought to make a premium head with a chrome ring instead of that ugly aluminum looking one?

yes, I did some years ago.Even went to Remo about it but the cost to make a chrome rim was to much.As you would have to used a steel metal rim so the chrome plating would work..Mikey

That makes sense I guess. Not like most gigging drummers are gonna drop 100 bucks apiece for kick drum heads. I am surprised nobody has even come up with a chrome finished adhesive that would go over the exposed metal of the head. I am thinking along the lines of the el cheapo plastic-chrome car accessories that stick over the existing things like door handles and mirrors.

The cost of real chroming is far too high anymore , to warrant such extravagance and there are extreme environmental restrictions on its application but there are some pretty good chrome paints out there. If applied properly they can look pretty good. I occasionally use Krylon to dress up 50 year old screw heads etc. and the odd rusty spur. It would work well on the hoop.

There have been some kick drums as well----Trixon comes to mind; that used a profiled head on the front of the kick, so there is a chrome skirt over the aluminum ring. Those Trixon drums look pretty sharp.
