Kent 8 lug snare drums Last viewed: 10 minutes ago
Don't know for sure - but I'll guess:
I recently bought a "6 lug" Gretsch snare on eBay at a fantastic price. It came with no hoops & no throw. I found out in a hurray why the low price - or I think I know why the low price = $75. The freakin (and I say that not in a bad way - just as an exclamation) hoops were more than the drum - each one! I was very lucky to find a Throw too. A member here on the Forum came to my aid. So what I'm saying is it's difficult to find some parts for a Gretsch 6 lug drum - and when you do find them they're expensive. It's a good thing I'm not selling the drum - it's a keeper - because I'd never recover the money I have in it.
Maybe the Kent drum is hard to find because people are collecting them I've noticed. I got a beauty 9x13 Kent tom recently on eBay for $38. It was advertised as not much better than "firewood." I'm using with my 58 Gretsch kit now and I like it. Yesterday I took it apart - again - and painted it with silver Sealer - I put some Clear Gloss Varathane on top of that. Nice reflective inside surface.
Good luck in your quest for the snare drum.
I played an 8 lugger the other night and it sounded just like the Gretsch vintage snare a friend brought to practise just to compare...Get em while they,re cheap folks!
I have an 8 lug chrome over steel Kent snare. Anyone want it?
Were all the wood Kent snares six luggers?

O...No.i have an 8,but they are so rare...apparentlyWalking
I've got a Musketeer snare that seems to be made by Kent and I think it's an 8-lug drum. (It's at work, so I can't check at the moment.) It looks pretty darn similar to the WMP Paramount snare made by Kent on this page: 8 lugs, single flanged hoop with welded seam, same strainer...
As far as I can tell they are pretty rare. I still have the only one I've ever seen. It's champagne and came with a 22x14-13x9-14x14 center-lug set that was stamped March 1968 (snare wasn't stamped but the toms were). I gave the set to my nephew who is still using it, but kept the snare since he wanted a metal snare anyway. It's two-ply maple (as was the rest of the set). The champagne color is really nice - no fade (pic isn't that great since I took it on a drizzly day - new england weather).
