Just getting started on a 60's Ludwig set Last viewed: 4 hours ago

That turned out awesome. It's a totally different kit. The latest pictures appear to have a tinge of green. If you're looking to accent the hoops, a base color that matches the wrap would look great. Some type of grey-ish/green-ish. You can always cover it up with some warp, if you ever find some.

If your looking to try something else on the hardware, I've had success with a product called Flitz. It's mild, eco-friendly and works great on chrome. I use it for all of my hardware cleaning.

I can't wait to see it when you get the resonant hoops.

This is the kind of set I'm looking for as a fixer upper.

Thanks for sharing.

Doing some nice work there!

I strongly suggest that once you get the chrome clean and polished to your liking (I actually use Brasso when I need to REALLY clean chrome) please give them a coat of quality hard wax to prevent them from re-rusting/tarnishing. I use One Grand Blitz Wax and I think it is the best balance of hardness, ease of application and removal and clarity out there. I use it on my cars but love it so much my drums are coated in it as well!

You are doing a great job and it is good to see an old set coming back to life!

EDIT=> Also, I should have mentioned that you should wax the components individually, rather than assembled. This prevents gobs of dried wax accumulating around lugs and other sharp corners...

Nice work so far.Idon't think the color will return to it's original state but don't worry about that. You have a history with the set and that is super cool. Many of have SBP sets, but they did not start out in our own family. They will look great when completed!
