Just bought a Ludwig Rocker? Rocker II? S/L?

Hello,

I have done some research but am confused on what exactly I bought.

It has classic lugs & wood drum hoops. The inside of the drums have something on them as I can't see the wood grain but it is wood in color and isn't the grey lacquer coating that the Rocker II's have. I have attached some pics. Any help on identifying what these are would be appreciated!

Anomalies on the Ludwig Rockers series , among other high end series from Ludwig are not uncommon.. The Rockers are made up of 4 ply shells (6 for kick) that had imperfections in the wood or were caused during assembly, etc..I have an early Rockers with the grey Granitone coating, but mine has classic lugs like yours.. The elongated bass drum spurs are also from the later Rockers series, unlike the shorter, club date type you have.. I'm gonna +1 with Jerry on this one and say you have a very early version of the Rockers series, i'd say from around 1979-80..

Could be one of three series, The first one the last version of the ludwig Standard 1982 unimold 4 ply shells, second Ludwig S/L,this series had a 6 ply kick with 4 ply toms, third early Rockers. All three series had mini classic lugs on toms, large classic lugs on BD.All three came in red.I believe early rockers had granitone interiors.

I have an S/l kit and it also has the beige/yellowish paint on the interiors, not all do,between my kit and the 8 or so others I have seen on the net they all have a 6 ply kick, but more than half differed from mine because of different BD spurs, and some of the badges had serial numbers, most did not as far as I can tell.Your spurs are the same that came on the Ludwig standards.

Check this out,

thanks everybody for the help! Very interesting info. I just got these for $200 and it came with the hardware and some crappy cymbals. This is my first USA made kit. Sounds like it may be as old as I am (born in early 80's) lol

That's a great deal for $200 with hardware. Very solid. Did they come with a snare?

Good to know! They are in great shape....wraps are about perfect. It came with a blue and olive badge snare that had a case.

Let's see a photo of the snare! That could be worth almost what you paid for the whole kit.
