Just another Acro...but

I got this Acrolite in one of those ebay auctions where a grubby drum coupled with bad photos and skinny description is mainly ignored. It turns out to be a really nice early B&O badged model without the painted finish that with a basic clean came up very tidy. A few shell scratches and scrapes but no rust or missing/damaged parts.

I thought anyone out there collecting data on these badges might like the info. It's the first B&O badged one I've had with a date stamp.

The date stamp is Jul 14 1970 and the serial number is 791331

Question: If you could keep one B&O badged Acro which version would it be? By that I'm referring to the finish, strainer etc.

love it. that's a keeper in my book. they are the nicest looking of the b/o models. the finish on them is much like the keystone models that are so desirable. these also sound just the same. ive got over a dozen of different kinda acros. my b/o pointy badge keeper is also like yours just without a serial number.

Thanks guys. I was wondering whether to keep it and sell my slightly later model one, my first Acro (many have come and gone since), and bought from you, Blair. It's a cracking drum and has done quite a bit of gigging with me (it's my go to gig snare). But I just really love the look of this new one (and yours looks even nicer Mike).

Pictured here is the incumbent Acro and it's a really nice one. I have a mint 66 as well but I always feel comfortable taking the B&O Acro to a gig and not having to fret over it too much.

that one looks great too Andrew! I go through this same thought process quite often. ive recently had two early b/o acros that were nicer than this no serial one I showed. but, I figure I can pick one of those up down the road. I don't see the no serials that often. it is a little tiresome thinking about these things sometimes however. I too have a keystone model that's not my nicest one, but it was my first vintage snare ever. so, I think I'm gonna hang on to it.

Hi Andrew!

As many here, I´m a huge Acro fan.

At least 15 have passed trough my hands on the last ten years.

I kept 4 or 5 in "working condition", and, as you mentioned above, I use these for gigs and any kind of show in which I am involved!!!LoLoLoLo

I tuned each of these with different range and they all of them sound beautiful.

Casually, I have one dated Oct 14, 1970, serial n. 809.443, which looks exactly like yours..... just 4 month younger!!!!

The aluminum seems like a kind of "satin" type, wich confers a very cool appearance

I.M.H.O., you just keep both!!Clapping Happy2

and always trying to recover some orphan drums!!

I gave my 60's Keystone Acro to Vinnie for helping me get my Blaemires. I missed it so much I bought another one from Mike Layton that is in like-new condition. I'm not gigging these days but I throw it on the snare stand from time to time just because they sound so good. I'm a fan of the 60's Acros, not so much for later ones. I just prefer the plain brushed aluminum shell, the P-83 strainer and the keystone badge. I know it's just me, but I really like the Keystone badge much better than the B/O on a drum for no particular reason. Strictly personal preference. I don't believe an Acro from one period is 'better' than any other. Just my own preferences. I think that's what you asked for. :2Cents:

Too many great drums to list here!

I get what you're saying John. I love the KS version too and I have a really nice 66 model that's mint. But that's the problem. When I'm heading out to a gig I generally take the B&O Acro because it sounds great but is not so precious that I'd be gutted to lose it (I'd be pretty unhappy though). But now I have this 1970 model with the raw finish like the KS version but owes a lot less, should I swap it out for the later painted model. Best of both worlds in a way.

These are not the sort of conundrums that keep me up at night but it's fun to consider. As Heraldo says, I could just keep both but space is tight and I've got an interesting old WFL coming. I'll sleep on itEye Ball
