I seen Joe at a Franks Drum Shop Clinic once. As well as sitting right next to Buddy at another Clinic there in '67.
Seen quite a few others there. Bellson, Joe Cusatis, Jose Betancourt, Roy Burns, a few others.
I always liked the very smart and simple "economy" of Joe's playing style.
Many may notice when he plays that he doesn't have to take his right hand from executing cymbal work, that his abilities with his left hand often could more than adequately take care of most snare drum duties.
As some might say and recognize, each hand "had its own brain", able to play independently from one another, with often little reliance-need of the other required.
And as some may have recognized-experienced in regards to fitting the hi-hat into a 5/4 beat, that it is sort of difficult, but he surely did it! Nothing ever sounded out of place, did it?!
