Does anyone know exactly what year the Gretsch Jimmy Pratt muffler was introduced? The Gretsch Drums book implies that it was in the 1950 catalog but I have a 1954 catalog and there's no reference to it either in photos or text

Good question...........
I seem to recall seeing some in early 50's drums.....
The first version had a hex shape tension knob, around the size of a dime.........
