Jazzfest Tension Rod Question

Loading...

So I am cleaning up my new 1965 Jazzfest and have come to notice that 8 of the t-rods are 1 5/8 and 8 are 1 7/8. I have read that the 1 5/8 length is correct but was wondering if 1 7/8 on one side of the drum would be functionally sound? I just like keeping the drum as original as it came to me as possible but also want to have it tune up and play correctly. Thoughts?

I've had a few snare drums like that.

FWIW: I always used longer tension rods on the bottom snare drum head.

With shorter tension rods, once in a while one would loosen up and end up on the floor during the gig.

Usually the rod underneath the spot I was hitting all night.....

+1 with the above. I've had a few Jazz Festivals, Acrolites and Standards that came with both sizes. 1-5/8" tension rods are the correct length, but there should be no issues with the slightly longer rods.
