Is this a Shelly Manne 1966 Leedy snare in Blue Agate Pearl?

Loading...

I picked up a beautiful 8-lug Blue Badge Leedy snare from May 1966 in Blue Agate Pearl. I bought it knowing that the rims and snare wires were not original but the drum is beautiful and I just couldn't say no. So, in looking through all of the catalogues I think I may have bought a Shelly Manne snare but I am not sure. I need our gurus inputs on this. Here are the pics I have of the drum. If so, what is it worth? And of course how tough do you think it will be to get the proper year rims to replace the ones that it came with? I like my drums original, or as close to it as possible.

Oh yeah. That's the great Shelly Manne model. Era-correct Slingerland stick saver hoops are no problem to find. The snare strands might be a little difficult to find. But, they are out there or not too difficult to improvise on what is available. Here are my two favorite snare drums--both Shelly Manne SlingerLeedy drums. The BDP snare drum is part of a matching 1963 Shelly Manne 20-13-16 set. The Pink Glass Glitter came to me as a singleton drum. It can be dated as either 1958 or 1959 because of the years this wrap was offered and the brass badge.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

leedybdp, very nice snares, the brass badge on your pink glitter snare may make it even older than '58-'59. '58-'61 Leedy badge is blue without postal code. Slingerland did offer some wraps on Leedy drums earlier than on Slingerlands.

Edit 1/7/2023: Early '58 likely for pink glitter snare.
