Hi Guys

Please take a look at this ebay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ludwig-Vintage-Drum-Kit-1960s-Gold-Sparkle-12-13-16-22-/160603219058?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Drums_Percussions_MJ&hash=item2564b2a472

Are those tom air hole grommets original features of ludwig, or might these be 'lemons'.

the chrome grommets are definitely not original and the brass one shown holding the badge on looks too wide. It's probably been re-wrapped.

That is a set I would have to see in person before I even considered it.

If you're serious about it you could ask some questions. For instance, it would be nice to see pictures of the other sides of the tom toms to see if they've got the correct tom mounts on them. He mentions the grommets and badges as not being original. Ask him to look at the sides of the drums and tell you if the wrap is original and if it goes through on the shell seam which would be proof of such. Basically the seller is missing some details that could be added to the auction or sent to you via email. But at the least you have extra holes in the tom shells. Ask what the individual serial numbers are on the drums.. I don't think it's shifty, just devoid of key info to make a good decision value-wise. He prefers local pickup which is a good sign, in terms of honesty, I think.
