Mine wobbles ever so slightly...

Yes, The snare side hoop wobbles the batter side does not?

If the snare hoop wobbles, that would infer that the hoop is warped a bit. That could be your issue. Have you checked the shell for wobble?

I've had them wobble a bit. It could also be tension adjustment, if uneven it might cause some wobble. I mean it would probably have to be drastically uneven though... :2cents

Hey all,I bought a 1970 Supraphonic (5x14) off ebay a few months ago and only recently noticed if I set the drum down on a flat surface it wobbles.If I flip it around and set it down on its batter side rim it lays perfectly flat.I took the snare side rim off and it wobbles, then I put the shell down on a flat surface and it wobbles as well. Do I have a bent rim and shell?Or is this how they're made?Thanks.

Yes, yes it is, give it to me!!

You know that snares have "snare beds" on the snare side, right? I think this is why your snare wobbles only on the snare side. The picture you have posted shows the wide snare beds that Ludwig incorporates on its snares.

Edit: In case you didn't know, here's some good info. http://www.drumdojo.com/snare_bed.htm

Thanks a lot, I never knew that. I guess a lot of people here didn't either. Here's a definition;

The snare bed is the indentation or dip that is located on the bottom bearing edge of the snare drum shell and centered under both the snare release and the butt plate. The length and depth and contour of the beds vary greatly among builders and manufacturers. It is located between the lugs that are located on either side of the throw off and butt end. The snare bed is one of five elements that go into the making of the snare function, the other four being the release mechanism, the snare head, the snare attachment and the snare wire set.

Snare-bed aside, the rest of the shell should still be flat/true and sit flat on a flat surface; no? As for rims, I have a slightly wabbly snare-side, Gretsch, 10-lug, die-cast hoop that I'm going to re-use on a snare project. (I think this might be due to bearing down on the t-rods adjacent to the snare-bed. I dunno.) I'll have to check the two walnut snares I have.

Good topic.
