It is real I have several of them myself. mr ludwig II signed a few of mine inside also.
There is a Joe Morello signed snare drum floating around CL in Charlotte also. I have to wonder the same.

I agree with mark that the wfl signature looks like the real deal to me.

i used to work drum shows and namm for my old boss who worked for ludwig, and i seen many people bring things for B2 and B3 to sign thru the years. i even had a ludwig book signed by B2.
lots of drums were signed so its not uncommon.
As a retired NYPD detective,I can tell you that there are some VERY talented forgers out there. I've had cases where ,the victim, couldn't tell the forged signature from his own.If I were in the market for an autographed Item,I'd have to have some form of verifiable provenance with it.But that's just me I guess, mainly because I have first hand experience with.None of us are handwriting experts I expect,we're drummers, which is why we need that provenance.
It does look like signatures that I've seen before, and I suppose some would say,"why forge a signature on the inside of a drum",of someone, few have heard of"?The answer is...why not,and...will that drum bring more at resale than a non signed drum?Isn't there a guy up in Canada ,building phoney Rogers snare drums?
