Hello, This is a great site. I came here because i need some information. If anyone can help that would be great. I'm looking for information on my ludwig acrolite snare serial number is 3125047. Iv'e never seen one with a textured finish like this one. Can you please tell me if it is rare and how much it is worth. Iv'e been playing for 30 years and have never seen this kind of finish.
Hello! It has been sugested I introduce myself, since I have never posted to "the Community" yet. I've been playing drums since 1964 after switching from clarinet, (cause drums are "cooler" for H.S.marching band). After graduation, I played professionally more than 25yrs. and taught lessons. I also worked @ ROGERS, Dayton, OH as QC tester & tuner of Dynasonic snare drums untill they relocated to Fullerton, CA. After the family arrived, road gigs weren't good for child rearing, so I worked as a cargo handler & giged around locally. I've got a 5pc 1974 Gretsch, marine pearl kit & a couple of import practice sets, one of which I need a tom holder for (by the way).I have the bass drum rail for a Ray McKinley style tom holder, so maybe, if anyone who reads this Knows where I may find the tom holder clamp-on parts, (they don't need to be pretty) please let me know.olderdrummer D' Drummer
I might have some import rail parts. I will haveto check in that coffee can.
I'm new here as well, but it's been fun thus far.
Hi! I am a 52 y/o drummer and structural engineer. I recently purchased an old Ludwig Acrolite and in the process of trying to get a manufacturing date for it, I ended up finding this forum in many Google searches. So, I thought I would join. (The date appears to be 1980, by the way). I am now kind of hooked on vintage Ludwig snare drums.
My main drum set is not vintage (yet). It's a 2011 Ludwig Classic Maple - 8x12, 9x13, 16x16, 18x22, 6.5x14, in SBP wrap. I have an old set of Sonor Force 2000's from the 90's too. I am looking to find an old Supraphonic to rebuild as a project. I'm sure I will have lots of questions if I can land one to start with. I'm looking forward to seeking the advice of some vintage drum junkies here!

Hi Everyone,
I wonder if anyone can help me with a minor issue I have with a late 1960s gretsch steel snare. The lever for the strainer consistently falls off during gigs. Has anyone had this problem before?
hey Mike C.
As I recall, (that QC job was a long time ago) the most common problem was, the drum just wouldn't tune up to satisfaction. First I'd change heads, one at a time, if that didn't work, change hoops (bent or warped) Sometimes tension rods were defective. Occasionnally the Dynasonics had a bent snare ladder-frame which would not mate evenly w/ the snare head.
Roy Burns was the head of the R & D dept. and he instructed me to reject any drum that wasn't in the condition I would expect to buy new on the store shelf. I remember a couple of times, I rejected some shells that had delaminated blisters inside. My line supervisor was upset with me because the defect wouldn't be seen after assembly. I reminded him (like Roy said) I wouldn't buy drums like this & I can't let them pass inspection!
It was a fun job I enjoyed in my youth! Thanks for askingExcited

I don't get on here much, but it's a nice place to visit. I'm told this is a network of youngsters to geezers! You've got about 16yrs on me, my friend.
I started playing @ 14 & went pro @ around 18, for 30yrs or so, and now freelance occassionally. What about you- still playing? if so, what type gigs & what's your kit like?
I can't figure out how to post pics, but if you know how, show us your drums! (& tell me how to do it? I'm not too swift on computer skills)
Hello from Finland!
I am a new guy here. 34 years of age and been playing drums since i was 9.
Drumming has been a hobby and a joy for me. I haven´t been playing in bands for 20 years besides school-productions. Many years i have also played brasilian instrument called berimbau.
Now i have been drumming in a band and a project for few months and i am loving it! Lately i have been changing my drum gear and i am now playing with tama starclassic bubinga / birch kit bd24, tt12, ft16 and zildjian k custom dark cymbals with one istanbul agop crash.
But my real loved one right now is my snare that i just got! It is 80´s Tama Artwood Birds eye maple 14X8 piano black Walking
My 8 years old boy has Tama Swingstar set from 1982 and we are renovating it piece by piece and slowly.
I am looking for more information about vintage drums and how to keep good care on those. This forum seems just the right place to look for. Good that you all are here, too!
