Introduction and a question Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Hi to all.i would just like to introduce myself,I am new to this forum and looking foward to learnig and maybe sharing info about drums and drumming.I have been playing on and off since grade school and am now in my mid 50's and can't bring myself to sell my gear and quit playing. My first wife made me sell my 2 ludwig kits so we could pay off the credit card bills and start clean.should have known then.

Anyway....I picked up a Slingy radio king 7x14 beaver tail lugs, clamshell strainer in wmp aluminum cloud badge. The top rim is the correct stick chopper but the bottom rim is aluminum with steel gates holding it together.I thought that I may have seen that on other drums from the period but the photos were so bad I really could't tell.

Has anybody see that before and if so is it correct for the drum of aftermarket?Any help would be appreciated.....Thanks Steve B

Sounds like a Super Gene Krupa Radio King, circa 1944-46. Classic. They did have riveted gates, but I think the original hoop would be chrome- or nickel-plated brass. (You sure yours is aluminum?)

Hi..yep its aluminum..allright and the gates are nickle plated steel(magnet sticks)The top hoop is nickle over brass evgraved Slingerland radio king.I agree that is Krupa 43-46 Radio king .Shell is single ply maple 7x14.I have seen more than a few rk's but never with a stick chopper aluminum rim.

We have some of the best known Slingerland guys on the Net, Please post a pic, the description is one of a rim that I've never seen on any Slingerland, are you sure it's a slingerland rim? The pic will really help us evaluate it!

Hi ...Just checked that rim again and there are no markings anywhere on it.It looks exactly like a bottom RK rim from that era but just made of aluminum with nickle plated steel gates which come to think of it are just as wierd.I'll photo asap. Thanks for getting back to me....talk to you soon....
