I'm a guitarist and have a cymbal question?

I've had lots and lots of small drum kits over the years. Just to keep around for practice and such. Sometimes they are gigged with. Currently I have a 20x14 bass 4 piece 60 MIJ kit.

I'm trying to outfit it dirt cheap. So budget is "as low as acceptable"

It's not my responsibility to provide drums for a drummer, it's a convenience thing. So I don't care if I'm skimping on quality some.

Ok, question, in the past I've always used heavy 20" rides. But for economy of size and investment, can an 18" cymbal do the trick? Is there such thing as a 18" ride that's not a crash? Do they sound a lot different?

Suggestions?

Possibly- an 18 could make do if the bell is big enough. You can probably find an 18-in crash/ride somewhere.

Craigslist as well as ebay are the cheapest places I've found for decent cymbals on the cheap. Just avoid ones with cracks around the bell and edges, and keyholing.

Might be one to look at on ebay... I have heard great things about these cymbals but have no personal experience with them..

Are you looking at an 18" thinking it will cost less? How much are you looking to spend? I might have something.

If you're looking for one cymbal to do it all, surely a medium-ish weight 20" Zildjian A would fit the bill. Probably something between 2000g and 2200g. Still going to ride well and has a decent bell but light enough to be crashable and 'crash ride' if that sort of thing floats your boat.

Snare and stand (doesn't quit match, brighter lighter blue sparkle)

Hi hat stand and station 13" high hats

So really all I need is a ride.

So far I have $312 in everything.

Drummer of Thin Lizzy lives near me. He's still rocking and plays Hollow Logo Avedis Zildjian. I know because I've seen them up close ;)
