Hello everyone! I am new to this web site so please forgive me if I am bring up an old subject...

I have this old drum set with this tag saying "Gig percussion japan"

I am trying to identify who makes them and if they are worth anything?

Welcome! Post a pic or two if you can, much easier to identify with a visual.

By the way, there's a forum section called "Vintage Non-USA" and if you post them there instead of here then you'll get a whole heap of MIJ experts ready to assist.

Cheers,

Trev :)

Looks to be some Pearl stencil MIJ. There is a collectors market for these type of drums, but the fancier wraps are usual more desirable and even the prettiest MIJ set isn't going to command a hefty price tag like the better made drums from the same era. You probably got $300 there. That's just my guestimate. I'm no MIJ expert. Let's hear what a few others say. Best of luck.

..Just noticing there's a whole lot of toms there, this will be interesting. Perhaps my appraisal was a bit light considering you have all these toms with the set. I'm just seeing metal bass drum hoops which is indicative of Pearl MIJ. A lot of that stuff was made with very low grade materials.

I got them about 5 years ago, the guy told me that he thought Tama made them back in the 70's

I tried to look up the name once but had no luck finding out anything... I am hoping someone here may know and let me know...

Thanks for your reply!

Someone here will definitely know. The Hoshino musical instrument company owned Tama. The often produced lower line drum sets. There are too many to list, but they were all more or less the same. The only difference being the name on the badge. I've had a MIJ kit that I couldn't find any information on either. There are so many. If you look for Thunder Drums or Maxwin drums on google you'll probably notice they're a lot like your drums.

Livewire, probably worth checking out the Vintage Drum Guide under Japanese Drums. There's a link at the top right of this page. Plenty of info in there!
