Hello all,

I acquired this snare for free a few years ago from a friend. It came with a three piece Wooding kit that a school was getting rid of. I actually forgot all about it until I saw it when I was poking around in the loft today. I spent awhile online earlier trying to find a similar drum but to no avail.

I have no idea what it's made from or how old it is. Judging by the badge I'm guessing its from the 80's or 90's.

I tried the fridge magnet test and it only stuck to the hoops. So I'm guessing it's chrome on something? Aluminium? It's quite a light drum and it has slotted tension rods. It also has a tone control knob and the muffler is still attached.

I'd love to know what it is as I actually quite like the sound of it and I think I'll spend a bit of time trying to restore it. It's really badly pitted unfortunately but it might look nice all polished up.

So if anyone can help identify it I'd appreciate it.

Thanks. :o

looks to be a Premier 35 which was Premier's version of the Beverley Cosmic 21 (Premier owned Beverley) which was a copy of the Ludwig LM400 Supraphonic. Should be 10 lugs and, judging by the pitting, be Aluminum. Great snare that sounds very much like the drum it was copying. The American version of this snare had the Beverley lugs so I'm picking this is the European market version. The photo here shows the US market model with Bev lugs

Thanks for your help guys. There's a few things that seem to make it a little different from the 1035.

It states here, http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/beverley_history.html, that the 1035 was the first Premier snare to come with square headed tension rods but mine has round ones with slots for a flat head screw driver. The throw off appears to be different and I also see that the 1035 was 14x5 1/2. Mine is 14x5.

The 'Outfits' catalogue from 76'/77' found here, http://www.drumarchive.com/premier/ has the closest match to it. Same lugs and throw off but seems to be half an inch deeper.

Maybe it is just a slightly different version of the 1035. Either way I'm having fun trying to figure it out!

Edit: Oh and yes it has 10 lugs.

Sorry I just realised this should be in the non-USA forum. Could a Mod move the thread please?

The 1035 is a steel shell drum. This is the alu '35' which I'm fairly sure came with slotted rods, at least early on.

Yup, with slotted rods that would be a 35 model. Great snare!! I had a 1026 (8 lug version of the 1035) that was really nice. This will tune up great!

It may be blasphemy to say this, but I've got two Premier all metal snares similar to this dating to the 80's. One's a 6.5" deep, and lately I'm actually digging their sound more so than my 60's - 70's Ludwigs super sensitive and supraphonics!
