How rare a Vistalite kit???

Loading...

Yesterday I followed up on a lead and looked at a Ludwig Tequila Sunrise drum kit from the 70's. From my limited expertise on Vistalite's, I gather it was an Octa-Plus kit.

(2) 22x14 bass drums - 1 of them had a huge hole in the side

All the mounted toms were concert toms(no bottom heads)

The one floor tom was 18x16 and had a bottom head

Here is the heart breaker - the snare drum was 14x6, and had the Super Ludwig strainer, but the shell was cracked!DOH

There was misc. hardware/stands, mostly Pearl, none were Atlas. A few cymbals, A Custom HH, A medium crash, the rest were Camber. Lastly, all of the serial numbers were 156xxxx and in the range.

He was looking to sell them, but wanted a pretty high price for them, over a grand.

Being that the snare drum and one bass drum was roached, and the rest of the kit wasn't really in that bad of shape, I was skeptical and walked for now. I told him I may be back in touch with him.

How rare are these kits?

I think that snare was quite rare, am I wrong? Most of what I've seen all have a P85.

Could RCI replace these broken shells?

Input please.......Coffee Break2

The Vista Super Sensitives were cataloged so they were readily available. It's a matter of how many customers may have ordered one as to whether they are rare or not. You don't see them every day, that's for sure, but they are out there.

I've seen a couple of Vista Octa-Plus sets over the years around my neck of the woods. One was clear and the other was blue. Both had regular metal Supras and were priced at $800. Tequila Sunrise was a cool looking combination. My concern on the striped drums has always been wondering how long all those glued seams will hold together. I guess they are still holding up 40 years later though.

My mistake, the strainer was the Classic, which extends the snares out past the snare bed. Not the Super Sensitive.

That would probably be a rarer combination as it wasn't cataloged as such (at least as far as I can see). Ludwig would certainly do it (obviously) but the customer would need to special order it.

Does the set look something like this?
