I've got one of these as well. Mine is not nearly as nice as the one shown but you can see the pedal lettering a bit more on mine. Neat pedals!

Hcoild be a proto type he had 3 patents on this pedal!

66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The one you and I have is on catalog page 39. The one he has looks like they used the frame off the Twin Spring Speedmaster on page 37 and adapted the footboard to it and how it attaches to the tower. His looks like its real because of the way the footboard attaches to the tower. They only attached the Speed King to the tower that way. The Speedmaster is attached with a hook per se.

Hey ScottHere's a photo of what I believe to be one of the first Speed King pedals which I've just recently bought (haven't quite got it yet). It was advertised as 1936 (maybe a prototype?) William F. Ludwig started his company properly the next year if I remember right and patented the design for the internal twin springs inside the posts. On my earlier version they are still outside - the later design obviously worked better! On the upper section of the footboard it says 'Twin Spring - Speed King - pat pend' . The original paint on this one is gold coloured.I use a couple of the later 50's Speed King pedals - great design!Dan

Here's the collection as of today. Thought you'd like to see the different variations throughout the years!
