How much should I pay for this kit? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I think that $1100 is just a little bit over what i'd pay for a club date in good condition.

However i did see one on my local classifieds 5 years ago go for an incredible $600, and it looked like a museum piece.. I couldn't contact the seller because he left no phone number or address, and i'm sure he was flooded with emails. It was almost a "too good to be true" scenario, and it looked like it could have been a "fake" ad, but he was selling other instruments at ridiculous prices, claiming in the ads that he knew what he was selling but they were priced to go fast because he was moving and couldn't take the instruments with him.. Whatever the case, someone snagged those club dates for $600 Cdn. dollars. Some people have all the luck.. If i were you, i'd go $800 cash and see what he says, but i'd bring an extra $200 just in case, cause $1000 bucks for a vintage Ludwig Club date is a pretty darn good deal if you ask me, at least here in Canada it is.. ;)

If he's asking $1,100 shipped, it may be a good deal considering it's missing some parts. I've bought club dates minus the snare for $600-800.

Jazzhead, I'd say you're right (& not just because I have 5 or 6 Club date kits). If you got the 20,12,14 for $800., that'd be a sweet deal, & a $200 Pioneer is more than fair. If he's asking $1,100, I'd guess he'd go for $1,000. I'm not dissing these guys here, but I think it's human nature to undervalue things other people own, & overvalue what you yourself own. If someone says a drum set is worth $800., ask them to sell you theirs for $800. I'm guessing most of us would say "no way!". We're all buyers & sellers to some extent, & there's nothing wrong in paying a fair price for something we want. Great deals are fun, but don't happen all that often. A nice blue sparkle Club Date would be a treat to own. I hope you can strike a deal with the seller. No offense to previous posters; just my 2c.........marko PS: post some pics if you get 'em.

Yup, i agree with you. Just because one or two times there was a clubdate for sale for 600 bucks doesn't mean they should all be sold for that much money. What i am trying to do though is not to overpay, even if its 100 bucks. I do agree that 800 bucks clubdate is a sweet deal but doesnt hapen too often. This one is a player grade but not too beat up, if it had the mufflers on it i would give it 8.5/10.

I think clubdates in very good condition worth 1200-1300. With some minor flaws 1000-1100, decent one 800-1000, beat up 600-800 unless you get a real deal. I am talking about the 4 piece.

Also it counts if you buy it from a shop or a private seller. Shops usually price the kits higher.

He is asking 1250 shipped, did i say 1100? i want to get it at 1100 for the 4 piece. It's a players kit since it has some scratches and its missing mufflers but there are no extra holes, shells and edges are all good, no lifting of wrap anywhere, and overall its not beat up.

Hi Jazzie - yeah I would go $800 max for everything. Show up with cash and I guarantee the buyer will take it :)

Offer the amount that you would be comfortable with keeping in mind what you think you can get if you need to sell them six months later. That is, of course, unless they are important enough to your personal collecting/or playing interests that you are willing to take a loss when you sell them. I have purchased some snares and sets that I will not get my money back on, but in those cases it wasn't the point. Others I've bought well below what I am confident I can sell them for later on. Some high, some low, but generally balancing out in the end.

I am not planning on making money on this kit. However, I would not want to pay for something more than what it worths. Why should I buy a player kit for $1100 if I know that $1100 could get me the same kit in very clean condition. That's why I am trying to see what should I pay for this. You know what I mean!? So yeah I am not trying to make money and maybe I will keep them forever because I have always wanted a set of clubdates.

My point is that "what it is worth" is largely subjective in the case of a vintage drum set. However, someone seems to have laid it out pretty well, above, and low and behold, it was you:

"I think clubdates in very good condition worth 1200-1300. With some minor flaws 1000-1100, decent one 800-1000, beat up 600-800 unless you get a real deal. I am talking about the 4 piece.

And you said:

"i want to get it at 1100 for the 4 piece."

I think you've nailed it. Yes Sir

Send the offer before you miss it!
