How much are my 60's BOP Luddies worth?

Hi,

Hello! I am getting old but am very new here so please bear with me.

I am the original owner of a Ludwig BOP set that was bought a piece at a time from Dec. '65 until May '67. It includes the following drums in original, excellent condition, w/ very tight, unfaded, original BOP wrap and white painted insides

14X20 kick - badge # 41958 original heads, some black paint flaked off on the hoops

8X12 tom - badge # 438119 original heads, baseball ball muffler white felt

9X13 tom - badge # 497102 clear remo heads, baseball bat muffler white felt

16X16 tom - badge # 369040 original heads, baseball bat muffler white felt

plus:

5x14 acrolyte snare - # 22496, original bottom head and snare, weather king top head, baseball bat muffler w/ red felt

plus:

all original Ludwig hardware and stands including Speed King pedal, flat base Ludwig stands for snare, cymbal, and hi-hat, plus bass-mounted cymbal arm.

Some issues (we've all got a few but this set doesn't have as many as I do!)

1. the kick is 14x20, not 14x22 - okay so shoot me, my Dad picked it out!

2. the kick wrap has ALWAYS been slightly lighter than the other drums

3. kick was modified from single tom with rail mount to double tom mount

the holes were skillfully plugged with shell and wrap material left over

from the cut-out for the double tom mount, plugs are very hard to see

I also have a 5x14 jazz fest snare # 171319 that I purchased a couple of years ago. It was painted after the wrap had been removed - a good candidate for a re-wrap.

I will try to post some pictures but I have faithfully and truthfully described these drums which, I've been told, are the same color as Ringo Starr of the Beatles played on the Ed Sullivan Show! :o) Yes Sir

An eBay auction just ended tonight at $2175 for a similar (slightly newer) set with 22" kick, with no snare, pedal or hardware and with the insides of kick and rack toms painted black! OMG it's a Ringo set, not Charlie Watts!

I would be most appreciative of any pricing suggestions or reasonable offers. Thanks!

But it's a 20, in BOP, hard to find drum, from my understanding, and the rest of these, man that is going to be tough. Too bad you passed on the 14 ft, which would have been almost enough for me to take a second on the house! I'm not saying they are not worth anything, those are some special stuff. Too bad about the extrsas on the bass. that would have been top dollar, but it still should bring good money.

From the estimate you gave of the kit that sold on ebay, and the mods done on your bass drum, you would get around the same money for equal amount of drums, the acrolite and hardware another couple hundred dollars, also ringo's first ludwig bass drum was a 20" then when to a 22"

Lucky: I am trying to remember what I paid for the jazz fest on eBay.

Drumbum: You have a very good memory! I don't know if there would be any appeal of the acrolyte (and/or the jazz fest) being included as part of the kit since they are of the same vintage.

What about cymbals, are you getting rid of everything? If you put it all together as a package you might get close to three grand. I know that if it is a "Ringo" highhat stand that those alone bring a good buck. Set it up as a four piece just like Ringo played it, take some pics and post them here. You might get lucky.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]I agree with Vintage2000....the addition of the snare likely negates the issues of the extra holes and the other condition issues.

I don't see the 20" being any sort of negative. Also, although bought in pieces, the serial #'s are generally in the same vicinity so that's a good thing.

Also, as Lucky mentioned, if you are including cymbals that can bump it up several hundred.

So...assuming the 5-pc. plus hardware.....I think you could muster $2000 on an eFlay auction....more if you threw in cymbals.

Granted a vintage drum shop would tag this at $3000. But I wouldn't really expect a whole lot more than $2g on eBay market.. If you get more...great....icing on the cake. It could well get into a last-minute frenzy.

But I wouldn't go in with an over-$2g expectation.....[/COLOR]
