Atlanta how old are you just curious 14 has never been traditional for me it is all a matter of taste and likes... liken it to a fisherman they like certain lures or colors it makes them happy... i started playing in 1964 and in 1966 i got a set of 15inch zildjians I played them for 46 years I sold them a year and 1/2 ago and bought a set of paiste 2002 15 inch sound edge hats I like them too dude you play what your ears like not trends or fads your ears are your best buddy listen to them... size does not matter sound does...

I'm 37 and started playing in mid 1980s. I'm a drummer on the side...it's not what I do for a living...it would be great though, but it's tough to make a living that way. Anyways, it's just that so many drummers were playing 14s and that it was the most common size in stores as well. I agree that let your ears be the judge. I guess I'm favoring a deeper lower pitch nowdays....kind of that way with rides and crashes too now. The lower tones seem to blend more and tend to be less harsh...IMHO
