Looks to me like the catalog first metal shell Holiday, Gretsch flat shell with lines around it, that the factory finished with a clear coat on the exterior instead of sending it out for chrome. The interior cliped finish nails for the script logo and interior paper tag still in place looks factory too. They were able to spray clear coats around the time of this drum for the interior of Dyna shell finish.
There are some Dynas and Powertones "out there" that I saw back in 98 at the Chi show that somebody had the chrome removed and buffed to the brass underneath. Not the case here I feel from the finsh detail mentioned before.
Top original head too. I don't think this drum was "messed" with too much. The snares and string look to be replaced. Would of come from the factory with Rogers snares. If not stamped Rogers on the ends then the same shape as the stamped ones.
Like I mentioned yest. they would of done anything upon request back in the Covington era. Also keep in mind what was happening around these Rogers years of this drum-growth with the intro of the Dynasonic. There were factory experiments, employee take home drums and requests that were made that make us scratch our heads all these years later. Great score on what I feel is an original factory drum.
